Western Naga Youth Front launched with appeal for unity

Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, MAR 14 (NPN):

The Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) was officially launched on Saturday at Senden Riju near ISBT in Purana Bazaar, Dimapur. Aga Rengma was elected president for the 2026–2028 tenure.
In his acceptance speech, Aga Rengma said the formation of the organisation came after more than a year of efforts to bring together Naga youth under one platform. He thanked elders and members for their support and cooperation in establishing the organisation.
Speaking on behalf of the newly elected office bearers, he assured that the team would discharge their responsibilities with commitment and work for the welfare of society, particularly the youth. He added that the organisation would strive to strengthen unity and brotherhood among Nagas and remain open to other youth bodies that are yet to join the front.
Responding to queries regarding the Western Sumi Youth Front and Chakhroma Youth Organisation preventing their members from joining WNYF, Aga Rengma said a similar issue had arisen during the initial formation of the organisation last year. He said both groups had participated in early discussions but later decided not to join due to an existing agreement between their apex bodies– Western Sumi Hoho and Chakhroma Public Organisation- which restricted members from affiliating with other organisations without prior approval.
Clarifying the objective of WNYF, Aga Rengma said the organisation has no political motive and was formed solely to work for social welfare, security and the upliftment of youth. He added that although the organisation does not claim jurisdiction, the districts of Chümoukedima, Niuland and Dimapur belong to the Nagas collectively and the front believes in standing for its members wherever they are.
Highlighting the background of the initiative, co-convenor Tia Longchar said WNYF was first launched as an interim body on October 24, 2024. He said the present generation now carries the responsibility of shaping the future and the purpose of the organisation would ultimately be judged by its work and outcomes.
Tia Longchar further said that during a meeting held at Saramati on October 12, 2024, representatives from 19 organisations and tribal bodies had resolved to unite to address issues affecting youth, including unemployment and extortion. He expressed hope that organisations with reservations would join the initiative in the future through continued dialogue.
The newly elected team also includes vice president Neisapa Soho, assistant general secretary Imtirong Amri, grievances cell secretary Nukuzo Dozo, finance secretaries Rankathung Ezung and Temsumeren Jamir, and treasurer Achumthung Tsopoe. Other office bearers include social and cultural secretaries Aso M. Imsong and Kiheukigumbe Riame, and press and media in-charge Illiegonbe Miliang and Lea.
