WGCSU demands more college buses

Wangkhao Government College Students’ Union (WGCSU) has appealed to the director of Higher Education to deploy additional buses for Wangkhao Government College, Mon.

A press release from WGCSU general secretary, Longang P. Konyak and assistant general secretary, Okwang Konyak stated that the college is located more than 5 kms away from the main town, making it difficult for students to commute on a daily basis. While stating that students belong mostly to the economically poor background and cannot afford their own transportation, the WGCSU also mentioned that there were only two buses for the college. WGCSU pointed out that the buses have to make numerous trips each day for picking up and dropping students, and some students even have to miss their first two classes in the mornings.

The union also stated that this particular grievance had been highlighted several times for the higher authorities but so far, the additional buses have not been provided. In this regard, WGCSU regretted that as long as this issue remains unsolved, quality education would only remain a distant dream for the students.

WGCSU has therefore urged the concerned authority to provide buses latest by year end, failing which the union would resort to its own course of action and will not be held responsible for any untoward incident.
