Why treating frontline workers in ‘despicable’ manner, NPP to State Govt

Reacting to the recent revelation that newly-appointed doctors and frontline workers were not getting their salary on time, National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland unit has questioned the State Government and health & family welfare (H&FW) department why such despicable treatment was being given to them when they were bravely facing Covid-19 pandemic by risking their lives and sacrificing their comforts for the society at large.

Terming it as “ridiculously appalling” that those who were putting their lives at risk to save numerous lives were actually being denied their right, the party in a statement asserted that it was a crime to deny them their salary.

These brave frontline workers should actually be the first to be given their remuneration, it added.

National People’s Party said the current government should better step down with grace and give way for those who could and were willing to do so, if it was incapable and unable to handle the recurrent crisis.

Demanding that the government not put lives of people at stake by being a slave to their ego, the party stated categorically that if those sitting at power were not able to empathise with the sufferings of frontline workers, they should ask the civil society to step in as there were many who were willing to give donations and contribute in easing the grievances of the brave frontline workers, provided the funds were not misused and there was full accountability.

National People’s Party also expressed scepticism over the State government’s measures to handle the various loopholes of lockdown and asked whether it was coming up with constructive measures to help the needy and affected now that the lockdown had been extended.

Pointing out that daily wage earners had been extremely burdened by the lockdown, the party asked the government whether it was looking after their needs, distributing free essential commodities equally and whether it was able to reach out at the grassroots level.
