Wife of former CM Dr. Shürhozelie passes away; funeral in Kohima today

DIMAPUR, MAY 24 (NPN): Mrs. Khotuoü Liezietsu, wife of former Nagaland chief minister and former NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, passed away Sunday at Apollo International Hospital, Guwahati. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on May 25 at their residence, Rüleizou, Kohima.
Born on July 26, 1939, Mrs. Liezietsu was the eldest among seven siblings, comprising four sisters and two brothers. She completed her education in Shillong before returning to Kohima, where she served as a teacher at Baptist English School.
She worked alongside Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, whom she married on January 25, 1964, and the couple was blessed with four sons.
Condolences
Nagaland governor Nand Kishore Yadav, chief minister Neiphiu Rio, deputy CMs– Y. Patton and TR Zeliang along with a host of organisations, have expressed grief over the demise of Mrs. Khotuoü Liezietsu, wife of former chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu.
Gov: Expressing grief over the demise of Mrs. Khotuoü Liezietsu, Nagaland governor Nand Kishore Yadav described late Mrs. Khotuo-ü as a graceful and respected mother figure whose kindness, warmth and gentle nature touched the lives of many.
He conveyed heartfelt condolences to Dr. Shürhozelie and the bereaved family and prayed that the Almighty grant them strength, comfort and peace during the difficult time. The governor also prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
CM: In a condolence message, Rio described late Mrs. Khotuo-ü as a prayerful woman who kept her family united through faith and love. He said she was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother who nurtured her children with values of humility and perseverance, while also standing firmly beside her husband throughout his long political journey.
Rio stated that she would be fondly remembered for her warmth, kindness and gentle nature, adding that her compassionate heart and friendly personality touched countless lives and left behind cherished memories.
Stating that the family had lost a guiding light in her passing, Rio said her legacy of goodness would continue to inspire many.
He further conveyed his family’s deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty God grant them strength and solace to bear the irreparable loss. He also prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
NPF: In a condolence message, NPF secretary general and MLA, Achumbemo Kikon described late Mrs. Liezietsu as a woman of grace, humility and quiet strength, who stood firmly beside Dr. Liezietsu throughout his years of public service.
The party stated that her life was marked by devotion to God, family and the community, and said she touched many lives through prayer, sacrifice and compassion. It said her calm presence and kind heart earned her the respect and affection of all who knew her.
Stating that her demise was a great loss not only to the Liezietsu family but also to the people of Nagaland, the NPF described her as a motherly figure whose warmth and integrity inspired many.

TR Zeliang: Deputy chief minister T.R. Zeliang, along with his family, conveyed deepest condolences to Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu and the bereaved family members.

The wing stated that she raised her children in the fear of God and that her prayers and sacrifices shaped them into honourable men and women.

Thenucho Tunyi: Former minister Thenucho Tunyi extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and all whose lives were touched by her warmth and kindness.
Describing late Mrs. Liezietsu as a woman of extraordinary grace, compassion and quiet strength, he said her presence brought comfort, dignity and light to everyone around her. Tunyi also said she possessed a rare wisdom and gentle spirit that nurtured not only her loved ones but also the wider community. Referring to her love for gardening, he remarked that it reflected the way she lived her life “with patience, tenderness, and the ability to help everything around her flourish.”
Stating that her demise was the loss of a remarkable woman and a guiding mother figure, Tunyi said her love, humility and humanity had left a lasting imprint on countless lives.

Ura Academy: Ura Academy has expressed profound grief over the demise of Lt. Mrs. Khotuoü Liezietsu, wife of former chief minister and president of Ura Academy, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu.
In a condolence message, Ura Academy vice-president Daso Paphino and secretary general Kereivilie Kire described Lt. Mrs. Khotuoü Liezietsu as a devoted life partner and pillar of strength to Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu. The academy also stated that she was a motherly figure and a valued member of the Ura Academy Chatha (Advisory Board).
