
To fulfil the commitment of “no voters to be left behind” and ensuring “accessible election” for the forthcoming state assembly election under the direction of the Election Commission of India (ECI), state election department of Nagaland along with state government of Nagaland has arranged to provide amenities to the People with Disabilities (PwDs) or differently abled people to exercise their franchise.
According to DIPR, collaborating with this project the District Election Office (DEO) Wokha has organised a SVEEP campaign on clean election from February 7 to 19 with Wokha district SVEEP ICON, Dr. Abeny W Khuvung.
Sharing her experiences, district ICON said that the small contribution they have been making today will surely come to a situation where they will see the fruits of their hard work in the near future and opined that her contribution towards this project does not go wasted.
Stating that working with the aged and special persons helped her realise how important they were, Khuvung said that it was a heart warming moment working with them and appealed them to come out and exercise their rights because they are eligible citizens as much as everyone is, and encouraged them saying that they have equal rights and urged them to exercise their rights by coming out on February 27 for voting.
DEO & DC Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon thanked district ICON, Miss Wokha 2017 and all NGOs, who have assisted in disseminating message on “clean and ethical voting”. DEO also said that district election machineries has set up one all differently-abled persons manned polling station in the district in tune with the theme “Accessible Election” and added that there will be four model polling station, one in each Assembly Constituency for differently-abled persons.
DEO further said that there will be 20 all-women polling station for the district, and appealed to the public to participate in the electoral process and also to maintain peace within the district.
Various awareness programmes were also conducted during this period targeting the aged people and differently-abled person to sensitise them about their rights and franchise on the theme “accessibility of voters”. The district ICON toured all the four constituencies covering even the remotest area in the district spreading the message on clean election.
