WNYF calls for probe into armed threat

DIMAPUR, SEP 27 (NPN): Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) has condemned the reported armed threat incident at Jalukie ‘B’ village in Peren district on September 20, 2026, where unidentified armed individuals allegedly appeared at the residence of R. John Zeliang, president of Zeliangrong Youth Front Nagaland (ZYFN), carrying sophisticated weapons.
WNYF said such acts of intimidation and display of firearms against individuals or communities were deeply disturbing and posed a serious threat to public peace, security and the rule of law.
It stated that it had “zero tolerance” for armed intimidation, threats or coercion to settle differences or create fear among the people.
WNYF urged the competent authorities to conduct a swift, impartial and thorough investigation, identify those responsible and bring the perpetrators to justice in accordance with the law. It said no individual or group should be allowed to take the law into their own hands or use weapons to threaten peaceful citizens.
WNYF expressed solidarity with R. John Zeliang, his family and the Zeliangrong community in condemning the incident. It also appealed to all sections of society to exercise restraint and refrain from actions or statements that could escalate tensions or disturb peaceful coexistence among communities.
WNYF said peace in Nagaland should not be taken for granted and reiterated its opposition to gun culture, criminal intimidation and any attempt to undermine the safety, dignity and peaceful life of the people.
