The Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) has raised serious concerns over the rising crime rate and delays in justice delivery, warning that continued government inaction could lead to public unrest.
In a press release issued after a consultative meeting held on April 24 at Diphupar Village Council Hall, WNYF interim convenor Aga Rengma stated that the meeting was attended by representatives from Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation, Dimapur Rengma Youth Organisation, Diphupar Naga Youth Organisation, Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur, Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation, Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (representing youths of seven eastern tribes), and Business Association of Nagas.
Expressing deep concern over the prevailing social unrest, the house deliberated extensively on the growing crimes, particularly against women, and expressed dismay with the administration and government for its failure to deliver justice in several cases.
WNYF highlighted the unresolved assault case of a nurse at District Hospital Dimapur on February 24, where a charge-sheet was yet to be filed. It also pointed out the lack of substantial progress in the investigation into the murder of a young mother at Pimla on April 7. The house also deliberated on the delay in verdict on the sexual assault case involving an IAS officer, allegedly beginning in 2021.
Stating that “justice delayed is justice denied,” WNYF condemned the administration/government’s inability to act swiftly, cautioning that growing public impatience, especially among the youth, could escalate into agitation if justice continues to be denied.
The front asserted that the government must take immediate steps to restore public trust by holding the perpetrators accountable and deliver timely justice.
The Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) also resolved to extend its full support to the ongoing agitation led by the Combined Technical Association Nagaland (CTAN) and the Nagaland NET Qualified Forum (NNQF) against the regularisation of 147 contractual assistant professors and librarian posts.
The Front cautioned that if the issue remains unresolved, it would not hesitate to join further agitations and fully cooperate in any future course of action initiated by the protesting bodies, stating that the matter directly concerns the future of all youths.
