Wokha DESO awarded best performing office on National Statistics Day

DIMAPUR: Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Nagaland celebrated the 20th National Statistics Day on June 29 at its premises under the theme “Unlocking the Potential of Administrative Data.”
According to DIPR report, National Statistics Day is observed annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of eminent statistician Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, architect of India’s modern statistical system, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to statistics and economic planning.
Speaking on the occasion, director of Economics & Statistics, Neidilhou Keditsu, highlighted that the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has launched a four stage consultative process—National agenda setting, National Level Consultative Workshop, State Level Internal Workshop and National Deliberative Summit—to build a shared vision and actionable roadmap for harmonization of administrative datasets at the State level. He noted that the initiative aims to make data machine readable, interoperable and AI ready.
As a preliminary step, the directorate has initiated preparation of metadata of its publications in line with the National Metadata Structure 2.0. Keditsu encouraged officers and staff to remain committed to generating quality, reliable and timely statistical data.
As part of the celebration, the District Economics & Statistics Office (DESO), Wokha was awarded Best Performing District Office in recognition of its exemplary effort during the Special Drive on Online Registration of Births and Deaths held from February 5–20, 2026.
The programme reaffirmed the department’s commitment to promoting quality statistics, strengthening administrative data systems and supporting informed decision making for the socio economic development of the State.
