The closing ceremony of the Wokha District Table Tennis Championship was held at the indoor Stadium of Government Higher Secondary School Wokha on December 13 with ADC Wokha , K. Furhesie Nyuwirise as the special guest. Mharoni Gigi Khuvung emerged as the champion in the women’s category and Lovungi Ovung secured the Women’s runner up.
In men’s category, David Hinglak emerged champion and Ekonthung Kikon secured the runners-up position .
The four winners will further represent Wokha district at the Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic which will be held in 2024.
Special guest K. Furhesie Nyuwirise emphasized the importance of resilience, asserting that persistence is crucial for realizing one’s dreams. He said failure is merely a stepping stone toward success. Apart from showcasing talent, he said the tournament promotes sportsmanship, with competitors uniting in the spirit of fair play, integrity, and respect, representing diverse cultures.
The speaker underlined that table tennis serves as a platform where every player can shine, irrespective of nationality, race, or gender. Encouraging players to give their best, he emphasized that true victory lies not just in points but in the memories created and friendships forged.
Anticipating enduring dedication and perseverance of players, he urged the audience to appreciate talent and cheer for the competitors as it determination. Acknowledgments were also extended to the Wokha District Table Tennis Association and sponsors for organizing the event.
