The monthly District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting for Wokha district was held on October 10 at the DC’s Conference Hall, Wokha, under the chairmanship of deputy chief minister and DPDB Chairman, Y. Patton. The meeting was also attended by advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, and Y.M. Humtsoe MLA.
Appreciating the efforts of DC Wokha and DPDB members in organising the first-ever Banana Festival scheduled from October 22 to 24, Patton advised that invitations be extended to all Heads of Departments and ministers of Agriculture and Allied sectors. Advisor Mhathung Yanthan highlighted the crucial role of Liaison Officers in coordinating hospitality and logistics for dignitaries, scientists, and officials from national institutes. He informed that several reputed companies have expressed interest in showcasing high-tech tools, seeds, and manures, provided logistical support is arranged.
Y.M. Humtsoe also lauded the committees led by DC Wokha for their commitment to ensuring the festival is celebrated in a grand manner. DC Wokha, Vineet Kumar, briefed the board on the festival’s scale, stating that over 100 stalls will feature banana varieties and products from within and outside the state, reinforcing Wokha’s identity as Nagaland’s banana hub. More than 20 banana varieties will be displayed, and over 30 premier technical institutions and marketing bodies will conduct workshops, demonstrations, and farmer training sessions.
President of Lotha Eloe Hoho, Thungbeni Ngully, informed the board that Miss Wokha 2025 will be held on November 3 and requested its inclusion in the DPDB calendar, as practiced in other districts. She urged members to support the initiative and acknowledged contributions from individuals and organisations.
