Wokha holds ‘Tuber Crop’ training for farmers

A one-day training workshop on “Improved Production and Value Addition Technologies in Tropical Tuber Crops” was conducted at Tiyi Hall, Wokha, on September 15.
According to DIPR report, the programme was organised by the District Administration, Wokha, in collaboration with ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI), Kerala; ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Wokha; ICAR-ATARI, Zone VII, Meghalaya; and in convergence with Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), Wokha, and Mission Shakti – DHEW under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP).
Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Vineet Kumar, graced the occasion as special guest. In his address, he lauded the partner institutions for their commitment to agricultural development and commended the active participation of women farmers. He emphasised the importance of adopting scientific methods in tuber crop cultivation and encouraged cluster-based production models to enhance market access and attract buyers beyond the state.
Dr. R. Muthuraj, Principal Scientist and PI, NEH Programme, ICAR-CTCRI, Kerala, delivered a special address covering tuber crop varieties, cultivation techniques, and value addition strategies. The welcome address was delivered by Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK Wokha, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Mhalo Tungoe, CTO, ICAR-KVK Wokha.
Technical sessions chaired by Anuranjan Singh, Project Manager and Skill Development (I/C), featured presentations on improved varieties and profitability, marketing aspects, and post-harvest processing by experts from ICAR-CTCRI. Practical demonstrations and a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) were conducted to identify field-level challenges and formulate action plans.
The workshop concluded with farmer feedback, a valedictory session, and the distribution of implements.
