Wokha: JAC temporarily lifts indefinite bandh along NH-2

Joint Action Committee, under the aegis of Wokha Village Youth Organisation (WVYO) has temporarily called suspended the proposed NH-61/2 bandh from June 20.
In a press note, WVYO president & JAC convenor Chibenthung P Kikon and WVYO general secretary & JAC member secretary Echungthung Murry said that the decision was taken after holding deliberation with DC Wokha and all stakeholders on June 19 at DC conference hall.
JAC said that the bandh was called off based on the written assurance given by DC Wokha that all the 106 locations marked/identified during the joint verification would be totally evicted within 15 days after which normal works will be allowed to start. It also said that the bandh has been temporarily suspended with condition that JAC will resume the bandh if any of the identified areas/location were compromised in any manner.
The meeting was attended by concerned department officials, contractor TTC Infra Company, JAC members, WVC, WVYO, WVSU, WVEE, WVEF, Lotha Hoho, LSU, WDCCI and well-wishers.
Meanwhile, as per the meeting minutes, the house was apprised by PWD(NH) department that they have carried out a thorough inspection of all 106 locations and identified corrective actions to be taken at various locations. The report was handed over along with DPR/contract agreement to JAC convenor.
Further, TTC Infra India assured all members that rectification works on shortcomings highlighted in the verification report shall be immediately initiated.
The district administration also briefed the house that all encroachment issues whenever brought to notice by the department or other stakeholders are being addressed promptly. It said that notices to 17 people were issued since April 2023 and forcible eviction has also been carried out wherever necessary.
Further, JAC along with Lotha Hoho, WVYO, LSU assured to provide all necessary support to district administration for removal of such structures.
Earlier in its ultimatum, JAC had listed out all discrepancies identified during the joint inspection including the apparent negligence exhibited by the district administration and PWD (NH) officials in clearing occupied spaces along the ROW.
