Wokha records highest rate of teen pregnancy

Wokha district has highest rate of teenage pregnancy and early marriage, divulged a senior Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) Wokha, Erenbeni Kikon on Saturday.

According to DIPR report, Kikon was speaking on the “impact and implication of teenage pregnancy and early marriage” during the Block Level IEC and Advocacy on Poshan Adhiyaan organised by Department of Social Welfare, Wokha in collaboration with Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) at Community Hall, Wokha village.

Kikon said to address the high rate of teenage pregnancy and early marriage and to lower the rate there was a need to sensitize and educate the teenagers about the medical complication and consequences. 

She opined that teenage pregnancy and early marriage occurs due to “ignorance and experimentation”. Kikon then urged the young girls who attended the programme to set high goals, challenges and become responsible members of the society.

Women Welfare Officer, DLCW, Dr Wonchano E Enny, District Coordinator, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojna (PMMVY) Renabeni Murry and IT Staff, Mhathung from Shaki-One Stop Centre highlighted about the various government schemes and policies introduced for the benefit of rural women and girl child. 

Chairman, Wokha Village Council and chairperson Wokha village Eloe Hoho, also delivered short speeches during the programme.

Mahila Shaki Kendra (MSK) also distributed sanitary pads under BBP. The programme was chaired by CDPO, Wokha Myanlumo.
