WOKHA, SEP 10 (NPN): Several Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from Wokha district took part in the Seasonal Bazaar organised by the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) on September 9 and 10 at Old NST, Kohima, near Crescent International Hotel.
Held under the theme “Go Green, Eat Fresh & Support Local,” the bazaar provided SHGs an opportunity to showcase and sell a variety of locally produced items from Wokha, popularly known as the “Land of Plenty.”
The participating SHGs expressed appreciation to NSRLM for creating a platform to directly market their products and reach consumers outside the district. They reported that the first day of the bazaar was productive, with their products receiving positive response from customers.
Members shared that income earned through such sales has helped improve household finances, including meeting daily family needs and paying children’s school fees.
They said the additional income has provided valuable support in running families and reducing financial pressures.
The SHGs further highlighted that organising such bazaars more frequently would benefit rural producers by creating regular market opportunities and helping them gain experience in marketing and customer interaction. They also noted that such initiatives could help reduce post-harvest losses, particularly for perishable agricultural produce, while providing an additional source of income for rural households.
Direct sales at the bazaar were described as beneficial and profitable, strengthening rural entrepreneurship and promoting locally produced goods.
The initiative was seen as an important step in connecting producers with consumers and encouraging sustainable livelihoods.
