The much-anticipated WTC Daily Market was formally inaugurated on Wednesday by Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA. The market, located in Wokha town, is expected to accommodate at least 50 vendors, with bookings available at the Wokha Town Council (WTC) office.
Addressing the gathering, Humtsoe called upon WTC councillors to rise above party lines and work in unity with a shared commitment to public service. Emphasising the need for mutual respect and collaboration, he reminded members that their efforts must be guided by the common goal of serving the people.
As an ex-officio member of the Council, Humtsoe underscored the importance of visionary leadership and collective responsibility. He stated that several developmental projects are underway in the town and urged councillors to remain focused on community welfare. He cautioned against selfish pursuits and stressed the need for sincerity and dedication in public service.
He also expressed concern over excessive external interference, which he said continues to hinder the growth of Naga society. He advised elected members to remain steadfast in their responsibilities and called for the empowerment of women and promotion of equality within the Council’s structure.
On infrastructure, Humtsoe highlighted the urgency of maintaining proper drainage systems and ensuring cleanliness across Wokha. He noted that mere toll collection would not lead to meaningful development and encouraged the formation of dedicated committees to study government schemes and implement practical solutions for progress.
He concluded by expressing gratitude to landowners for their support in making the new market a reality.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Wokha, Renbemo Ezung, also spoke at the event. He emphasised the importance of public cooperation in maintaining government infrastructure and urged citizens to take ownership of public property.
Ezung called on colony officials to act against misuse of government accommodations and advocated for a mindset that values and protects public assets. He noted that development is progressing in phases and appealed for greater public cooperation to achieve long-term goals.
