Wokha Town Council lifts ban on pork sale

DIMAPUR: Wokha Town Council (WTC) has lifted the temporary ban on sale of pork within its jurisdiction with immediate effect, following consultation with the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Wokha and review of the prevailing animal disease situation.
According to the order issued by WTC chairperson W. Myingthungo Kikon, import, export and transportation of live pigs will be permitted only from Amguri (Assam) site to Wokha Town via Mokokchung route. Each consignment must be accompanied by a valid health certificate issued by a registered veterinary officer certifying that the pigs are clinically healthy and originated from an ASF‑free area.
The order advised butchers, traders and transporters to comply strictly and to report any signs of illness, suspected infectious disease or death of pigs immediately to the authority. It cautioned that failure to comply would invite appropriate legal action under relevant provisions of law.
