Woman among six insurgents held in Manipur

A woman was among six cadres of different armed groups including PLA arrested by the police and security forces in separate operations in the valley district on Saturday, police said on Sunday.
The six cadres including the woman belonged to three armed outfits, the police said in its daily law and order update.
It said that an active cadre of the banned Peoples’ Liberation Army was arrested from Kumbi Bazar in Bishnupur district. He was identified as Nongmaithem Gyaneshwor Singh (49).
He was allegedly “providing logistic support to his banned organization.”
Another active cadre of the same armed outfit was arrested from Lamdeng Mayai Leikai in Imphal West district on Saturday. He was identified as Laishram Jiten Singh (56).
One more cadre of the same outfit was also arrested from Khurai Konsam Leikai in Imphal East district.
Identified as Moirangthem Chaobi Singh (50), he was allegedly involved in extortion and instigation of mobs against security forces.
In another operation, the security forces arrested a woman cadre of the proscribed NRFM (National Revolutionary Front of Manipur) from Mantripukhri Friends Colony under Heingang police station of Imphal East district. She has been identified as Khaidem Sunila Devi (55).
Two active cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Noyon) were also nabbed from their respective residences at Lilong in Thoubal district and Naorem Leikai in Imphal West district on Saturday.
They are identified as Md Mujibur Rahaman (44) and Sorenshangbam Bungcha (44). One .32 pistol with a magazine recovered from their possessions, the police said. The arrests were made during intelligence based combing operations and cordon and search operations which were being carried out extensively to nab those involved in extortion and criminal activities in the state, the police said.
Apart from search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts of the strife-torn Manipur, security forces were also cracking down on extortion and criminal activities in the state, they added.
