Under “Jai Diwali- Water for Women-Women for Water”, Atal Mission for Urban Transformation (AMRUT) in collaboration with National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) and Public Health Engineering along with women from various Self Help Groups (SHGs) visited Water Treatment Plants (WTP) in Jotsoma on Wednesday.
State Mission Director, DAY – NULM, State Urban Development Agency, Directorate of Urban Development, Kiniholi Kinimi informed that 22 SHGs from Kohima district under DAY-NLUM with a total of 32 participants attended the unique initiative.
She said the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under AMRUT 2.0, has initiated plans to organize a unique initiative “Women for Water, Water for Women Campaign” in collaboration with the National Urban Livelihood Mission to celebrate “Jal Diwali” from November 7 to 9.
She said the women from SHGs have the opportunity to visit Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) as it provided them with an understanding of the various processes involved in supplying clean and safe drinking water to households.
The women were also educated about the water quality testing procedures that ensured the citizens receive high-quality water. The main objective of the visits was to foster a sense of belonging and ownership among women towards the water infrastructure. The team was led by junior engineer PHED Kohima, Er. Medozeu Chatsu, who also explained about the water treatment process.
