DIMAPUR, SEP 7 (NPN): The 78 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), kicked off the Women’s Volleyball Tournament under the banner of “SPANDAN – Sports for Peace and Development” at B/78 NIDC, Dimapur on September 7.
The opening ceremony was graced by Commandant, 173 Bn CRPF, Ashok Kumar, as the chief guest, alongside Commandant, 78 Bn CRPF, Deven Bhosle, officers of the battalion, representatives of SAI, coaches, officials, participating teams and sports enthusiasts.
The tournament, aimed at promoting women’s participation in sports, youth engagement, peace, unity and inclusive development, has drawn 18 women’s volleyball teams from across Nagaland. It follows the recently concluded 10-km Mini Marathon held at Sechu-Zubza on September 5, which saw participation from over 200 athletes.
The inaugural match between Livingstone Club and Court Queen Club set an energetic tone for the competition, with players displaying enthusiasm, confidence, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest emphasised the vital role of women in nation-building and highlighted their contributions across education, science, sports, public service, security and administration. He noted that active participation in sports fosters confidence, discipline, leadership, teamwork and determination among women and young girls.
The organisers reiterated that SPANDAN seeks to use sports as a medium to transcend social, cultural and regional differences, fostering peace, friendship, harmony and development. The tournament will continue till September 10 at the same venue.
Commandant Deven Bhosle expressed confidence that the initiative would inspire more young women to pursue sports and contribute towards building a strong, united and progressive nation.
