Work on NH-36 to commence within a week’s time

Staff Reporter

As already reported in the June 19 edition of this newspaper, the Public Works Department (NH) under the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is set to begin construction and repairing of NH-36 within a week.
This was confirmed to Nagaland Post by project in-charge of Naagaamii Infratech Pvt Ltd, the firm that secured the contract.
He claimed that the firm was selected as it was the lowest bidder in the tender process. He said all documents were submitted to the department, which were then verified, and that an agreement was subsequently signed after all paper works were finalised and completed.
The in-charge mentioned that a joint inspection with PWD (NH) would be carried out soon, though the company’s engineers were already on site to survey.
On the timeframe set for completion of the entire work, he assured that black topping of the highway would be complete by December, if weather permitted. “If weather permits, it would take around four to five months to fully black top the entire stretch from Dilai gate to DC Court junction to Dhobinala to GS Road to Golaghat Road and up to Hotel Tragopan point, which is approximately 6.8 km. I guarantee to complete the black topping before December,” he stated.
He further assured that there would not be any compromise on the quality of work, adding that officers and engineers from MoRTH would check the quality of the work.
Referring to the two minor bridges near Dilai gate, Peseyie disclosed that renovation of the bridges would take time since there was no road diversion. He said the company would also require the assistance of the district administration for removing all illegal structures around the bridges.
He informed this reporter that work would be carried out during night only owing to schools and hospitals lying on the stretch.
He appealed to citizens, colony councils, GBs, civil society organisations and all stakeholders to cooperate during the construction period, emphasising that public support was crucial.
He said necessary soiling of road to cover up potholes wherever necessary would be carried so as to ease the sufferings of commuters.
