ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA)-Child Friendly Dimapur, in collaboration with Child Helpline and the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Chümoukedima, successfully organized a workshop for ASHA workers at the Primary Health Centre, Chümoukedima.
Themed “Every Child Matters: Identifying, Preventing, and Responding to Abuse,” the workshop aimed to equip ASHA workers with the knowledge to identify, prevent, and respond effectively to child neglect and abuse. Project Coordinator of Child Helpline Chümoukedima, Mhaseto Rhakho, led the sessions, highlighting various forms of child abuse—physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual—while stressing the importance of early intervention.
He also discussed support services, including Child Helpline (1098), DCPU, and law enforcement agencies, and conducted a practical demonstration on reporting abuse cases.
District Child Protection Officer Nikito Zhimomi elaborated on DCPU’s role in safeguarding children under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS).
He underscored the importance of collaboration with stakeholders such as Juvenile Justice Boards, Child Welfare Committees, and NGOs to enhance child welfare initiatives.
Additionally, Child Mobilization Officer at AIDA-Child Friendly Dimapur, Shemang, introduced AIDA’s intervention across Northeast India and its vision of creating child-friendly cities. She urged ASHA workers to actively promote child rights in their communities.
With 32 participants from both rural and urban areas, the workshop served as a crucial step in strengthening community-based child protection mechanisms, empowering frontline health workers to be vigilant advocates for children’s welfare.
