Workshop on ‘DAPCU led single window model on social protection’

One-day workshop on DAPCU Led Single Window Model on Social Protection was Tuesday at Hotel Lake Shilloi, Dimapur with officials from National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), New Delhi, DAPCU National Resource team, NACO-NERO (North East Regional Office) and Family Health India (FHI).
The workshop was inaugurated by deputy commissioner Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome who said that 10 years back, the perception of HIV and AIDS was taken as a health issue but now, he said that it needed to be looked upon as a social issue.
He also stressed that medical department alone could not handle the issue of HIV and AIDS but that it was also the responsibility of all stakeholders, government departments and community to jointly fight against HIV and AIDS.
Access to benefits of social entitlement and HIV sensitive social protection is one of the key priorities under the National AIDS Control Programme Phase IV.
These social protection schemes play a crucial role in addressing the social determinants of HIV.
State AIDS Control Societies are taking an initiative of District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) led Single Window model on social protection for People Living With HIV (PLHIV), Most at Risk Population (MARPs) and Children Affected by AIDS (CABA) to facilitate one point access for availing benefits from various existing government welfare schemes in order to improve their quality of lives.
The participants for the workshop are from state AIDS Control Societies & DAPCUs of Arunachal, Assam, Mizoram and Nagaland.
The programme was attended by chief medical officer, Dimapur Dr. M. A. Wati, deputy chief medical officer/district AIDS control officer, Dimapur Dr. Antoly Swu and officials from Nagaland State AIDS Control.
