A three-day workshop on educational evaluation for faculty of higher education was conducted at Mokokchung College of Teacher Education from February 25 to 27, 2026. The programme was organised with the objective of critically examining existing evaluation practices and strengthening assessment competence among faculty members.
Altogether 27 faculty members participated in the workshop, including 17 from Government colleges and 10 from Private colleges, reflecting a balanced representation from diverse higher education institutions.
The sessions, resourced by the faculty of the college, focused on developing a clear conceptual understanding of evaluation and enhancing skills in designing effective assessment tools. Deliberations examined current evaluation practices, reasons for the persistence of conventional methods, and their impact on teaching–learning processes and student outcomes.
Key areas covered included the purpose and scope of educational evaluation, formulation of learning outcomes, alignment of assessment with curricular objectives, construction of valid and reliable tools, and interpretation of results for academic decision-making. Interactive discussions and hands-on practice encouraged participants to rethink evaluation as a tool for learning rather than merely for certification.
Participants described the workshop as a refreshing academic experience, helping them revisit foundational concepts of educational evaluation. One of them noted that it was a first-of-its-kind initiative in the state focusing specifically on assessment in higher education, stressing that frameworks such as Bloom’s Taxonomy are equally relevant beyond school-level teaching.
The workshop concluded by underscoring that educational evaluation as a need-of-the-hour issue, demanding urgent attention in the context of changing educational goals and learner diversity.
