Workshop on Health Policy culminates

The four-day capacity building workshop on health policy, financing, and right to health and healthcare for North East states concluded on September 10. The workshop was organized by All India People’s Science Network (AIPSN), in collaboration with OP Jindal Global University (OPJGU), Sonipat, Haryana and Tata Institute of Social Sciences Guwahati (TISS), at Conference Hall, Tourist Lodge, Dimapur.


Addressing media fraternity at the conference room on Sunday, general secretary, AIPSN, Asha Mishra, stated that the four day workshop at Dimapur was attended by member representatives from Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.


She informed that the workshop would be carried out pan India, and the campaign took off from North East beginning in Dimapur. The state level workshop for Nagaland would be held in Dimapur and Peren, she informed.
She pointed that the main aim of the workshop was to educate people on rights of health and health care, lamenting that overall health situation in India was not reaching the poorest of the poorest section.
She further added that the workshop witnessed visitation of local hospitals.


Meanwhile, professor, OPJGU, Indranil Mukhopadhayay, in his address, informed that 40 participants from six NE states participated in the regional workshop.
He added that the workshop was favored with discussion and lectures from 20 resource persons, in the capacity of bureaucrats, doctors, researchers, journalists, etc.


He also reiterated that the main idea of the workshop was to act as a catalyst process where researchers and media come together to understand issues of health policies, financing and disseminate the across the country.
Also briefing media, Asst Prof., TISS, Dr Santosh, stated that the workshop was held to educate people from the area about basic health rights.


He pointed on the importance of community participation as an important element to spread and aware people on their rights to health and health care, especially to strengthen public health sector in the rural level.
He further expressed hope that the workshop would educate the larger masses.
