Department of Industries and Commerce, in collaboration with Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation (NIDC) and Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), organized a two-day technology clinic on “Innovations in Bee-to-Bottle: Apiculture & Honey Harvesting Solutions” on April 24 and 25 at Multi Utility Center, NBHM, Chümoukedima.
The event supported by World Bank-supported Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) programme, brought together beekeepers, honey collectors, entrepreneurs, and MSMEs from across Nagaland, showcasing the state’s commitment to modernize its apiculture and honey value chain.
Experts from NBHM led interactive sessions on bee biology, site selection, pollination, harvesting, and marketing. Participants also took part in hands-on demonstration on modern bee boxes, extraction tools, and techniques for collection, storage, packaging, and branding.
The clinic featured discussions on threats to beekeeping in Nagaland, climate-resilient practices, and the need for organic certification to build consumer trust. It highlighted bee pollination’s role in biodiversity and food security, the importance of bee foraging plants, and the industrial potential of by-products like royal jelly and beeswax.
On Day 2, participants explored a case study on Honey Twigs, India’s first on-the-go honey brand featured on Shark Tank India. Co-founder Jigar Mehta shared insights on branding, certification, and exports, and expressed interest in sourcing honey from Nagaland.
