College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry (CoVS&AH), Jalukie (CAU Imphal), conducted an awareness workshop on meat hygiene at Jalukie town on June 24 as part of its research project titled “A KAP Study on Meat Hygiene in Peren, Nagaland.”
According to CoVS&AH, the workshop, themed “Safe Meat, Healthy Community: Ensuring Hygiene from Slaughter to Sale”, aimed to educate local butchers, meat sellers, and other stakeholders on proper hygiene practices. Topics covered included meat handling, storage, display, handwashing, and equipment cleaning.
Participants were given hygiene kits containing gloves, soaps, towels and sanitizers to support safe meat handling practices.
Led by principal investigator Dr. Raghubir Singh, the programme was held under the guidance of the Dean, CVSc & AH, Jalukie, with support from faculty members Dr. Kevimese Khate and Dr. Samares Kumar Das. The workshop saw active participation and positive feedback from local vendors.
Three councilors from Jalukie Town Council also attended the event and lauded the college for promoting consumer health through such initiatives.
