A cultural workshop on Mech (Bodo) Kachari Traditional Songs and Music was held at Kushiabill Kachari Community Hall, organised by late Mech Kachari School of Traditional Music in collaboration with Gyanswrang Fwrai Shali on July 20.
The theme of the event was “Gwrlwi Denkhwni Swdwbfwrkhwo Bujinai” (Understanding Simple Terms of Music). Over 40 participants including children, youth and elders attended the programme. Mentored by Gopen Mech, the workshop featured sessions on traditional instruments such as kham (drum), sifung (flute), and serja (stringed instrument), along with group singing and discussions on rhythm and music theory. Elders guided the youth, encouraging intergenerational learning. Notable attendees included Subash Mech, head gaonbura Kushiabill; Phungkha Basumatary, cultural secretary KTCN; and Uttam Brahma from Naharbari.
The event concluded with performances of folk songs and a collective pledge to preserve Mech (Bodo) musical traditions. Organisers expressed intent to host similar workshops in other villages.
