DIMAPUR: District Industries Centre (DIC) Dimapur, Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Nagaland, organised a one day capacity building workshop on One District One Product (ODOP) at City Centre, Medziphema, Chümoukedima, on September 16.
Delivering the keynote address, General Manager, DIC Dimapur, Chikutoh Nyusou, highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship, MSME development, and the objectives of the ODOP initiative. He underscored the significance of pineapple cultivation in Medziphema, describing it as a vital horticultural crop and source of livelihood for many farmers.
Nyusou emphasised scientific and improved cultivation practices, sustainable pineapple farming, post harvest management, reducing wastage, marketing, and collective participation. He explained that the workshop aimed to equip growers with practical skills, address challenges in cultivation and marketing, and create awareness about opportunities under ODOP. He encouraged pineapple growers to actively participate and work collectively to make cultivation sustainable and profitable.
During the technical session, Zakietsono Jamir, founder of Coffee Lady, shared practical insights from her experience, stressing the importance of quality, processing, packaging, branding, and marketing in building sustainable businesses. She noted that locally available agricultural resources could be transformed into marketable products, creating additional income and employment opportunities.
The workshop also featured a session on pineapple processing, value addition, and enterprise development, delivered by Kiyelu T. Yeptho. Another session under Make in Nagaland Financial Analyst, RAMP, focused on digital business development and operational management for business success. Participants were encouraged to utilise digital platforms for promotion, customer outreach, and market expansion. The programme concluded with an interactive session and closing remarks by Jethro Mesen, Functional Manager, DIC Dimapur.
A total of 78 pineapple growers from villages including Razaphema, Molovom, Maova, Medziphema, Zhuikhu, Bungsang, Socunoma, and Tsiepama attended the workshop. The programme was chaired by Lika, Project Associate RAMP, while an introduction to RAMP Nagaland was delivered by Pikali Zhimo.
