Workshop on scientific approach to cattle production

National Research Centre on Mithun (NRC, Mithun) hosted a pivotal State level workshop aimed at bolstering scientific approaches to cattle production in Nagaland on June 25 at ICAR-NCR on Mithun at Medziphema.


The workshop, was graced by Kazheto Kinimi, advisor of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) as chief guest, and other esteemed dignitaries including Dr. Giresh Patel.S, director of NRC, Mithun, Dr. Achila Ao director from the Department of AH & Veterinary Services, Managing Director NLDB and colleagues.


In his address, Kazheto commended NRC, Mithun for its leadership in disseminating knowledge among targeted groups and emphasized the workshop’s significance in fostering scientific discourse.
He appealed to ADG (Animal Health), ICAR, New Delhi, to expedite efforts in developing preventive measures against African Swine Fever (ASF).


Kazheto said that the disease has been recurrent in Nagaland, causing significant economic losses and affecting piggery farming communities. Despite global complexities, he expressed confidence in India’s scientific prowess to overcome these challenges.


The workshop spotlighted on the conservation and propagation of Thutho Cattle, an indigenous breed recognized for its resilience and local adaptation. Participants underscored the need for concerted efforts to preserve and leverage this valuable genetic resource.


The programme concluded with interaction of farmers and scientist, distribution of input materials to farmers, handing out of certificates to graduating Veterinary Field Assistant (VFA) students.
