
A workshop on “village sanitation” was organised for WATSAN, government schools and village council by DWSM, PHED Tuensang and sponsored by WSSO, PHED Kohima under Swachh Bharat Mission on Saturday at Longkhim Town.
In the workshop programme, PHED Tuensang chemist, Tzütipokla Lrk spoke on water quality standards and emphasised on the importance of water quality.
She stated that the main objective of water quality survey was to determine the physical, chemical and bacteriological characteristics of the water. Tzütipokla also explained about diseases caused by chemical contamination of water and their prevention and encouraged the gathering to test the drinking water on regular basis at the laboratory.
IEC consultant PHED Tuensang, Ashale Seb, spoke on village sanitation and pointed out that the village sanitation was one of the important steps towards development of the village and the district as a whole.
She further encouraged the teachers to spread awareness through students since children are the agent of change. Ashale also urged upon the village panchayat, WATSAN committee, village school teachers to take one steps forward for the sustainable sanitation.
Er. Khitangpila Sangtam JE, PHED Tuensang also highlighted the duties and responsibilities of the WATSAN at the workshop programme.
The members of the WATSAN and councils members also delivered short speeches at the programme. The workshop was chaired by consultant, PHED Tuensang Rongsentula while vote of thanks was delivered by JE, PHED Tuensang Temjenchila.
