Workshops, training and awareness programmes held across educational institutions

A series of academic workshops, training programmes and awareness campaigns were organised across Nagaland institutions during the past week, focusing on scientific research, digital literacy, financial awareness and career guidance.
At Nagaland University (NU), a three day national workshop on “Histochemical techniques and systematics in biological sciences” was inaugurated on March 11 at the Department of Zoology. The workshop, held from March 11 to 13, was graced by NU Vice Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik as chief guest. In his address, Prof. Patnaik appreciated the initiative taken by the department and encouraged organisers to conduct such workshops on a larger scale in future, facilitating greater interaction among scholars from different institutions and states. He said such programmes promote knowledge exchange and collaborative learning.
Welcoming the participants, Prof. Ranjit Kumar, HoD Zoology, emphasized the significance of histochemical techniques in scientific research, particularly their role in understanding cellular structures and functions. He noted that these techniques are instrumental in identifying different cellular stages, aiding early detection and study of diseases such as cancer. Convenor of the workshop, Prof. Bendang Ao, stressed the importance of organising workshops of this nature as they provide an excellent platform for participants to enhance knowledge and gain practical insights. He urged participants to actively engage and make the most of the sessions. The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr. Ramita Sougrakpam, with a vote of thanks delivered by co convenor Dr. Rajesh Singh.
Meanwhile, ICFAI University, Nagaland, conducted a four day training on advanced IT skills under the IBM SkillsBuild Programme from March 9 to 12. Implemented by ICT Academy in collaboration with IBM, the programme aimed at enhancing students’ digital and technical skills. Students were introduced to modern IT technologies and gained valuable insights into industry relevant skills and career opportunities in the technology sector. Participants actively engaged in the sessions, making the programme a meaningful learning experience.
St. Joseph University (SJU), Chümoukedima, celebrated National Science Day on March 11 under the theme “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat.” Organised by the Science Club in collaboration with IIC, the programme featured a keynote address by Dr. Prem Prakash Mishra, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, NIT Nagaland. He encouraged women to recognize their abilities and potential, stressing that empowering women through education is essential for both scientific advancement and social progress. He also spoke on challenges such as child marriage, gender discrimination and domestic violence, while highlighting government initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and NEP 2020.
The second session featured a workshop on “AI Tools for Education” conducted by Dr. Arambam Neelima of NIT Nagaland. She introduced participants to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in education and demonstrated tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Wolfram Alpha, Grammarly, QuillBot, Elicit, ChatPDF and Perplexity AI for academic purposes. She also showcased presentation tools like Canva and Gamma. Apart from the sessions, debate and quiz competitions were organised, with students actively participating and showcasing their enthusiasm.
In Mokokchung, Jubilee Memorial College (JMC) hosted a digital awareness camp on March 13 in collaboration with State Bank of India (SBI), Regional Business Office Mokokchung. Resource person Imtitoshi, Branch Manager, Alongmen Branch, highlighted SBI’s digital banking services and encouraged students to adopt secure digital transactions. He cautioned participants about rising cases of digital fraud and cyber scams, stressing the importance of safeguarding personal information and remaining vigilant. An interactive session allowed students to raise queries and share concerns regarding digital banking and cyber security.
The Department of Economics, Modern College, Piphema, held its “Annual Econoquest 2026” on March 11 as part of the Financial Literacy cum Career Awareness Campaign initiated by RBI Kohima. Resource persons included RBI Kohima Manager Thanggoumang Hangsing and Assistant Manager Supongla. Hangsing delivered a talk on “Introduction to Banking,” explaining the establishment and functions of RBI, security features of Indian currency notes and the Ombudsman Scheme. He also highlighted saving habits, investment awareness and cautioned against scams promising unrealistic profits. Supongla spoke on career opportunities at RBI, detailing the selection process for the RBI Grade B examination and encouraging students to consider careers with the institution. The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, Q&A session and quiz, with students and faculty actively participating.
