Along with the rest of the world, Mon and Wokha districts observed “World AIDS Day” on December 1 under the global theme, “Equalize”. In Mon, the programme was organised by the District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Mon in collaboration with JACAOA and TI Partners at Youth Hall, Tobu Town with support from NSACS. Speaking at the programme, DPO, DAPCU, Longyim Tzudir highlighted the gathering on the significance of the day and said that this year’s theme focuses on call to address inequalities and help end AIDS. Guest speaker, ADC Tobu, Chubatemjen acknowledged those who are working in the field of HIV prevention and control programme. He also briefly emphasised on accessibility, acceptance and actions while asserting the importance of evaluating achievements and plan for future actions.
Resource persons MO, CHC Tobu, Dr.Pangjong spoke on “HIV testing and treatment” while basic information on harm reduction was shared by PM, TI Shansham Mon, Stephen.
Wokha: District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit Wokha organised a programme at Mhomo Hall, Witter Theological College Vankhosung, Wokha to mark “World AIDS Day”.
Speaking on the theme, Medical Officer School Health Programme Wokha, Dr. Thungchanbeni Patton called upon the participants to unite and eliminate the disparities, stigma and inequalities that create barriers in eliminating AIDS. He said fear of stigma and discrimination are the main factors which prevent an HIV infected person from seeking Antiretroviral Therapy. Dr. Thungchanbeni stressed that people living with HIV infection should have the same basic rights and responsibilities as those which apply to all citizens of the country.
