World Environment Day 2024: DMC to launch plastic management initiative

In commemoration of World Environment Day 2024, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), in collaboration with Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (SBM-U), has announced a special advocacy initiative focused on Plastic Management, particularly targeting Single Use Plastics (SUPs) and Multi-Layered Plastics (MLPs).

DMC Administrator W Manpai Phom, through a circular, informed that DMC will organize a competition among colonies for the maximum collection of clean plastics. In this regard, stakeholders have been advised to store plastic waste separately for two weeks, starting May 20, 2024, which will be collected by DMC on June 1, 2024.

Categories of plastic to be separated will be– recyclable plastics & SUPs/MLPs. All collected plastics have to be clean and dry so that such plastics collected can be used as RDF material at the cement kilns to be disposed in an eco-friendly manner, it said.

DMC said that collection of collected plastics would be done in ward-wise manner. However, competitors of this competition will be colonies and the collection points will be in the following wards–

i. Ward 1, 10, 21
ii. Ward 2, 3, 4, 22
iii. Ward 5, 6, 8, 20
iv. Ward 9, 13, 15, 18
v. Ward 11, 12, 14 and
vi. Ward 7, 16, 17, 19, 23.
Further, information with regard to the drive and competition would be shared in the coming days, DMC stated.
