
Various organisations and institutions observed “World Environment Day” a day head of the main event, by conducting general awareness and social work on June 4.
RFS: Royal Foundation School (RFS) Phek celebrated the day at the school premises.
A press release from the school stated that Asst. teacher, Mhethowe-u addressed the students highlighting on significance on WED.
Speaking on the theme, she stressed on the dangers and harmful effects of Air pollution and cited various irrational human activities that pollute the air.
Students also displayed an act on the causes and effects of air pollution.
The programme was chaired by Pamela, who in her concluding remarks encouraged the students to be the change that they wish to see in the world. The function concluded with a pledge from the students to strive towards a cleaner and healthier environment. (Correspondent)
SJC: Three-day celebration to mark “World Environment Day 2019” at St. John College (SJC) began on June 4, guided by department of Botany and Eco Club.
A press release from SJC media cell stated that, students commenced general awareness programme highlighting the importance of conserving nature and minimising air pollution by presenting posters and placards on June 4. On June 5, students and staff will work in the botanical garden and other areas of the campus by planting saplings. On day three, further awareness programmes shall be carried out along with removal of plastic litter from the college campus.
Reflecting on 2019 theme “Air pollution” all waste gathered will be disposed in a responsible way avoiding haphazard burning.
GPS/GMS Naga New Model, Dimapur: GPS/GMS Naga New Model (AO) Notun Bosti, Dimapur also celebrated the day on June 4. A short programme was held at school to give awareness about protecting the environment and emerging environmental issues. A brief write up on world environment day 2019 and the current status of air pollution levels as recorded by Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) was briefed to the students by the head teacher. NPCB also gave banners and bookmarks which were distributed to all the students. Painting competition based on the theme was also organised and winners were awarded.
KLC: Kohima Law College (KLC) observed World Environment Day-cum-social work on June 4. A press release from KLC media cell stated that, professor-in-charge Kezhokhoto Savi delivered the key note address. Other assistant professors including Moasenla and Soni stressed on the importance of environment protection and uncivilized practices which harm human health such as opening septic-tank, keeping pigsty.
YMC: Yemhi Memorial College (YMC), Nepali Basti Dimapur eco club, NSS Unit and EVS department observed the day, under the theme “Air Pollution” which is the global theme of 2019.
A press release from YMC, Dimapur principal Makhan Chetia stated that the resource person Kezia Yepthomi from Ambedkar University, New Delhi gave a discourse on the impact of human negligence to conserve and preserve the environment with the aid of power point presentation and video clips. She urged upon the students to take a stand to protect the environment and make it the “battle of our lives”.
The awareness campaign was followed by a practical session by cleaning the college campus and the vicinity nearby.
BHSS: Bethesda Higher Secondary School (BHSS), Dimapur commemorates the day by organising painting competition, skits, seminar, and social work. This was stated in a press release issued by school principal, Abikail Chishi.
MHS: Various activities were conducted as part of “World Environment Day” by Mount Hermon School (MHS), Dimapur in the school campus.
A press release from MHS administrator, B.P Pradhan stated that students, teachers and staff participated in the programme. Nuzovoi a life science teacher spoke in detail on air pollution and its harmful effects on Mother Nature thereby leading to end of human beings.
Students also carried out procession within the vicinity to spread awareness about issues related to the environment.
Administrator encouraged the students and teachers to go green for the protection of environment as Green makes the world look beautiful.
