World Food Safety Day observed in Chumoukedima

Food Safety Administration, Dimapur Zone, under the CMO’s Office, Dimapur, observed World Food Safety Day on June 9 at Government Higher Secondary School, Diphupar A, Chumoukedima. The event followed the theme “Food Safety: Science in Action” and was held later than the official date of June 7, which was a national holiday.
In his keynote address, Chief Medical Officer Dr. T. Temsu Lkr emphasized the importance of self-care during hot weather, suggesting the establishment of an ORS corner in schools to prevent heat-related issues. He discussed food poisoning symptoms and prevention, encouraging students to prefer home-cooked meals and avoid leftovers.
Dr. Temsu also advised checking food labels, verifying FSSAI registration/licensing, and reporting food safety concerns. He stressed that a balanced diet, timely meals, and adequate sleep are essential for a healthy lifestyle.
Designated Officer (Food Safety) Samuel Zehol highlighted the role of education in promoting healthy eating habits and noted that food safety and nutrition are being integrated into school curriculums. He stated that this year’s theme aligns with FSSAI’s ‘Eat Right India Movement’ and the Prime Minister’s initiative to combat obesity and non-communicable diseases through science-based preventive strategies. He also announced upcoming sugar and oil awareness programs in schools, workplaces, and public spaces.
The program was chaired by principal C. Henow Phom, who also delivered the welcome address. Class-12 students participated in the event, with five students winning prizes in a quiz competition. Science GT Nzanbeni Lotha led the invocation, and Food Technicians from Food Safety on Wheels, Dimapur—Zuthungbemo Ngullie and Lika Assumi—conducted demonstrations on food adulterants, dyes, and sugar chart presentations. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Food Safety Officer Samlamgwamlie Michui.
