World Food Safety Day observed in Kohima: Nagaland

Food Safety and Standard Authority, department of Health and Family Welfare observed the 5th World Food Safety Day on June 7, under the theme “Food standard Save Lives” at Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) School, Lerie, Kohima.
Commissioner of Food Safety, commissioner and secretary, H&FW, Y.Kikheto Sema graced the occasion as special guest.


In his speech, Kikheto said in 2018, the UN approved the annual celebration of World Food Safety Day and the first celebration took place on June 19, 2019.
The theme for this year, intended to draw attention to and inspire action toward preventing, detecting, mitigating food borne risks, he said.


Kikehto said he had requested the Government of India to provide five basic food laboratory and five Modified Food Safety on Wheels (MFSW) with manpower support to provide safe and wholesome food to its citizen at the 40 National Meeting of Central Advisory Committee, FSSAI, Delhi .
“Nagaland is not a Dust-Bin for adulterated, sub-standard products .We need to work hard and eat our own organic products”, he said. State program officer (Food safety) Health and family welfare Dr.John Kemp, who chaired the launching programme also delivered the welcome address and shared on the significance of day.


Earlier, the program began with an invocation by Bendangsenla and vote of thanks by Khrukutolu Veswuh. The program concluded with a demonstration on how to detect common food adulterant.
NVCO: Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) also observed “World Food Safety Day” in Kohima on June 7.
Emphasizing on the theme, NVCO president, Kezhokhoto Savi suggested clean and hygienic slaughter house and promoting local street vendors as most of them sale pure organic products.
