World Heart Day observed across Nagaland

Along with the rest of the world, World Heart Day was observed in Peren on September 29 with the theme “Power your Life” at CHC Jalukie. Chairing the program DVPO, NVBDCP, Dr. K. Limatula Ao welcomed the participants and also delivered the keynote address. 
She spoke on the significance of World Heart Day and why it was observed. Dr. Limatula stated that the aim was to inform people about cardiovascular diseases and to promote its preventive measures and also to improve health globally by encouraging people to make lifestyle changes and promoting education internationally about the ways to be good to your heart.  
Also speaking on the occasion,  Tguori informed that diseases could be cured and protected if ‘we’ are aware and conscious and remarked that people tend to live an unhealthy lifestyle because of ignorance leading to premature deaths.
Dr. Thangmang, Thomson, MD, Medical Officer, Athibung PHC, spoke on healthy heart, its risk factors, prevention and management. He highlighted the symptoms of heart disease, the main types of heart disease, the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and its prevention.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. D. A. Newmai, SMO CHC Jalukie. A total of 70 patients availed the services. Also, 12 persons were diagnosed with diabetes and 22 with hypertension cases. Apart from free health checkups and distribution of free medicines, 50 persons availed counseling on health promotion and prevention of non communicable diseases.
Rangapahar: World Heart Day was observed on September 29 at Rangapahar Military Station.
Walkathon, Poster Making Competition for children and a talk on how to improve health of the heart were the highlights.  All the troops and their families stationed at Rangapahar Military Station participated in the programme.
World Heart Day observed at Village
 riphyim old: The Department of Health & Family Welfare, Wokha observed World Heart Day on September 29 at Riphyim Old Village under the theme “Power Your Life”. On the occasion a medical team led by Dy.CMO Dr. Tumchobeni, Sr. Dental Surgeon Dr. Meribeni, ZLO Dr. Mhonchan, MO PHC Humtso DR. Abenthung, and MO PHC Englan Dr. Mhajan screened a total of 70 patients for Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar Testing and BMI.  
A community sensitization on the ill effects of Tobacco use was taken up by Nodal Officer, NTCP Dr. Meribeni wherein she urged the village leaders to extend their help and turn Riphyim Old village into a “Tobacco Free” village.
Earlier Dr. Mhajan spoke on the significance of observing World Health Day and stressed on 3 specific points on how to control blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol level.
akuluto phc: Meanwhile, District Health Society, Zunheboto observed “World Health Day” under the theme “Power Your Life” on September 29 at Akuluto PHC and organised a screening camp at Akuluto PHC.  The camp was led by MO i/c Akuluto PHC Dr. Hokugha, , MO i/c Saptiqa PHC, Dr. Kanato, Inalu Rochill, BPM, GNM and Lab tech of RBSK & MMU and supporting staffs of the PHC.
The camp administered 166 OPD, 116 screened for Blood Sugar, 116 screened for BP, 61 screened Blood Grouping and 59 persons was counseled for health promotion and prevention of NCD. Two persons were detected with diabetes and 55 hypertension cases were detected during the camp. Earlier a seminar cum interaction session was held at Sumi Baptist Church, Akuluto town on September 28. 
Resource person Dr. Hokugha Jakhalu, speaking on the seminar emphasized on diabetes, its risk factor and prevention control. He also elaborated the causes of cancer and treatment.
