‘World Honey Bee Day’ celebrated at SASRD

Along with the rest of the world, All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Honey Bees and Pollinators (AICRP-HB&P), SASRD, NU, Medziphema Town celebrated “World Honey Bee Day” with students of Charis Higher Secondary School, Chumukedima, on May 20. 

A press release from AICRP (HB&P), SASRD NU stated that assistant scientist, AICRP (HB&P), Dr. Avinash Chauhan welcomed the entourage and encouraged them to be “best friends with bees” who are responsible for giving food crops, etc. 
Bee professionals enlightened the students on the manifold importance of honey bees who provides not only honey but a host of by-products and most importantly, the vital role of bees in pollination. 
42 students guided by two teachers visited AICRP (HB&P) apiary at SASRD, Medziphema during their exposure trip and were also shown a documentary video on honey bees. The young group were also given a practical demonstration about handling bee colonies and their hives, different types of bees as well as components that constitute a hive.
