In observance of World No Tobacco Day 2025, members of the Anti-Tobacco Club of Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School (MHBHSS), Kohima, met with Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem on May 31 and submitted a memorandum calling for stricter control over the sale of tobacco products near school premises.
The memorandum, presented by student representatives and faculty coordinators, expressed concern over the easy availability of tobacco products near educational institutions, which poses a serious risk to students’ health and well-being.
Buchem commended the students for their proactive approach and assured them that the issue would be taken seriously. He promised that necessary measures would be implemented to create a tobacco-free environment around schools, promoting better health for students and the community.
