DIMAPUR: The week long World Population Day Campaign 2026 under the theme “Healthy Timing and Spacing Between Pregnancies for the Well being of Mother and Child and to Prevent Unintended Pregnancies” concluded successfully across Mon district on July 18, 2026.
Organised by the District Programme Management Unit (DPMU), National Health Mission (NHM) Mon, the campaign focused on creating awareness on family planning, promoting healthy birth spacing and ensuring quality services for eligible beneficiaries. Officially launched on July 11, the inaugural programme was followed by orientation for health personnel by Moie Bonnie Konyak, who outlined strategies for intensified community sensitization, beneficiary registration and mobilization.
Throughout the campaign, ASHAs and coordinators conducted intensive IEC activities through group discussions and interpersonal communication, reaching around 220 eligible mothers. Mission Parivar Vikas – SAARTHI Awareness on Wheels also traversed villages to spread awareness on family planning choices and healthy spacing.
Services provided included IUCD (Cu T) insertions, Antara injectable contraceptives and distribution of condoms, oral contraceptive pills and emergency contraceptives. The campaign recorded 367 IUCD insertions, 233 Antara doses and substantial distribution of contraceptives across the district.
The successful implementation was attributed to the coordinated efforts of DPMU, medical officers, healthcare workers, ASHAs, BPMs and frontline staff, whose commitment to mobilization, counselling and service delivery ensured wide outreach. NHM Mon reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening family planning services and enabling safe, voluntary and informed reproductive health choices.
The observance marked another step towards improving maternal and child health outcomes and promoting responsible parenthood in Mon district.
