World Population Day observed

Adolescent Education Cell under the Department of SCERT Kohima on Friday conducted a state level essay competition on the topic "Gender equality is the key to a healthy and happy life" in commemoration with World Population Day. The programme was held at SCERT conference hall with Director of SCERT, Vipralhou Kesiezie as the chief guest.
Speaking as the chief guest, Vipralhou Kesiezie said World Population Day was observed to reaffirm the rights of the people to plan their families and to sensitize the people on the importance and objectives of World Population Day.
Underlining the worldwide poverty problem which deprive children and families the right to healthy food, education and good living, the chief guest pointed unplanned family to be the main cause of poverty. He urged all to spread the importance of family planning which he said would beat poverty and maternal death.
Altogether 14 students from Kohima, Mokokchung, Zunheboto and Dimapur participated in the essay competition. Bendangrenla S. Longkumer of Queen Mary School Mokokchung was adjudged the first, while Kiran Khumujan of St.Paul School Phesama and Mekrulo-ü Mero of Mount Hermon School Kohima secured the second and third positions respectively. They (winners) were awarded cash prizes along with certificates.
It may be mentioned that the district level essay competition was earlier conducted in the four districts in the month of May and June.
