Veterinary hospital Kohima would be observing “World Veterinary Day” on the theme “Strengthening Veterinary Resilience” at the hospital premises on April 30.
The day which celebrates the contributions of veterinarians was started in the year 2000 has been dedicated to the health and wellbeing of animals, people and the environment.
Veterinary surgeon of the hospital, Dr Elizabeth Yhome said the importance of a veterinary doctor was felt all over the world for the kind of impact they create for healthcare of animals, prevention, control and eradication programmes against infectious diseases, zoonotic diseases, thus making the world a better place for animals and humans to coexist.
She said veterinarians also played a vital role in major sector of the society be it in food security, meat & dairy industry, poverty alleviation, scientific researches and employment generation.
Keeping all these in mind, Dr Yhome said the theme was chosen for this year as a vital reminder of the importance of resilience for a veterinarian.
While stating that a resilient vet would be better equipped to handle daily challenges and crisis that may occur in their practices, she said developing resilience would enable vets to thrive both personally and professionally.
To mark the day, Dr Yhome highlighted some of the basic duties as responsible citizens—motivating young people to take up the noble profession, improving the living conditions of animals, creating awareness on various zoonotic diseases and the importance of routine immunisation, preventing cruelty to animal and creating awareness on recognising and supporting the works of veterinarians.
