World Water Day 2024: Water for Peace

Nagaland joined the world in observing the “World Water Day” under the theme, “Water for Peace” on Friday.
PHED Zunheboto: Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Zunheboto division in collaboration with the Community Service Committee, Zunheboto Government College observed “World Water Day” under the patron of Water Sanitation & Support Organization (WSSO) PHED, Nagaland.

Speaking at the programme as special guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Zunheboto, Keyirangding Hegui, stressed the importance of streams and rivers and efficient usage of water. He said it was collective responsibility towards sustainable management of freshwater resources.


In an introductory speech, executive engineer, PHED, Zunheboto,
Er Ichirangbe Zeliang, called for conserving and preserving water for change and asked the public to work collectively to save water. He also stressed how scarcity of water could spark conflict.
The event was attended by Ward GBs Zunheboto, representatives from Sumi Hoho, ZRSU and other dignitaries and students of Government College, Zunheboto.


SCC: The Jal Shakti Committee (JSC), Sao Chang College (SCC) organised activities to mark “World Water Day” with the objective to address the importance of fresh water and advocating sustainable management of water.
During the programme, the JSC coordinator, highlighted the significance of the day and emphasised the importance of freshwater and the need to conserve it.


The participants had hands-on experience of water quality testing and monitoring and also took a pledge committing to participate in a mission towards water conservation at the local level.
DGC: The Jal Shakti Team (JST) Dimapur Government College (DGC) organised a walkathon to commemorate “World Water Day”. A brief program took place at the tri-junction in Duncan Colony, where assistant professor Lhipe Naro delivered a brief speech and flagged off the walkathon. The water conservation awareness walk culminated on the college campus. In a sensitization session, assistant professor and the convenor of JST, Dr. G. Phukato Sema, spoke on the theme and emphasised public responsibility to preserve water.


SJU: A one-day seminar on “World Water Day” was organised by the department of botany, in collaboration with the Institute’s Innovation Council (IIC) at St. Joseph University (SJU) Chümoukedima. The program comprised two sessions: a model display competition and a technical session. Resource person, a junior scientific assistant at the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), Rongsenben Longkumer, provided insights into various water-related issues in different districts of Nagaland.

She also spoke on the different assays and tests conducted by NPCB and suggested methods for preserving water resources and implementing water conservation methods. The model display competition was conducted, and several students from different departments actively participated in it. The students demonstrated their models and explained their concepts.
