Manipur Gov AK Balla inspects pier bridge
The world’s highest railway pier bridge being constructed over the Ijei River in Manipur’s Noney district is expected to be completed within the current financial year (2025-26).
Railway engineers engaging in the construct of the world’s highest railway pier bridge conveyed this to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Balla who inspected the construction site on Saturday.
The under construction world’s highest railway pier bridge over Ijei River in Noney district in Manipur is a part of the Jiribam-Imphal railway line project.
It stands at a height of 141 meters and has a length of 703 meters. The bridge is being built by Indian Railways (Northeast Frontier Railway) and surpasses the previous record held by the Mala-Rijeka Bridge in Montenegro.
The bridge is a crucial component of the 111-km Jiribam-Imphal railway line project, aimed at connecting Manipur’s capital with the national broad-gauge network.
It is considered an engineering marvel and a major infrastructure project for improving connectivity in the region.
The Manipur Governor inspected the under construction bridge during his maiden visit in Noney district. During the inspection, the Governor was briefed by the railway engineers about the ongoing railway line construction.
The engineers informed the Governor that the construction of the bridge is nearing completion and is expected to be finished within this financial year.
The Governor appreciated their efforts and encouraged them to continue working in the best interest of the people of the state, Imphal Raj Bhavan said in a statement.
Earlier, the Bhalla reviewed the overall development and administrative activities in Noney district during a meeting held in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner at the district headquarters.
The Governor was briefed by the DC, SP and other district level officers (DLOs) on the development works being implemented in the district.
The deputy commissioner apprised the Governor of the various developmental initiatives undertaken in the district.
He also highlighted key issues related to infrastructure developments including national highway projects.
The SP briefed the Governor on the current law and order situation and security measures in the district.
DLOs representing different departments, including from health, education, power, agriculture, horticulture presented reports on the status and progress of their respective sectors.
They also raised concerns regarding manpower shortages and requested the Governor to look into these matters.
Governor patiently heard the genuine grievances raised by the district administration, the Raj Bhavan statement said.
The Governor also inspected the stalls set up by different departments showcasing various agricultural, horticultural and handcrafted products.
Later, the Governor interacted with representatives of various civil society organizations based in the district.
They submitted memoranda to the Governor, seeking his support and initiative for various developmental projects in the district for the welfare of the people, the statement added.
