WSH, CPO to oppose ULB nominees from ENPO areas

Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) and Chakroma Public Organization (CPO) expressed “unequivocal opposition” to any efforts made by the state government to nominate candidates from Eastern Naga People’s Organization (ENPO) area as government representatives in Municipal Councils and Town Councils under their jurisdiction.

In a press note, presidents of WSH and CPO reminded the government that candidates from the Eastern areas have been previously restricted from participating in elections within their territories, in compliance with the ENPO’s resolution to refrain from engaging in Central and State Elections.

Therefore, WSH and CPO said that the appointment of individuals from ENPO area as government nominees would not only violate the principles of ENPO but also undermine the integrity of the state government’s electoral process.

The two organizations called upon the government to respect their autonomy and refrain from appointing people from ENPO area as nominees in their municipalities. “We affirm our commitment to defending the interests and autonomy of our people and will resist any such appointments,” it asserted.
