WSSU extends support to ongoing USSC agitation

Western Sangtam Students’ Union (WSSU) has extended support United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC)’s ongoing agitation against the non-fulfilment of its three-point charter of demands.

As part of its phase-II agitation, USSC on August 22, 2023 locked the offices of district education officer (DEO), senior sub-divisional education officer (SDEO) and sub-divisional education officer (SDEO) for an indefinite period under its jurisdiction. USSC demands include immediate cancelation of teachers post transferred without relievers and equal distribution of staffs, detach teachers from VIPs, directorates, DEO and SDEO offices and redeployment of shortage of teachers.

In a press release, Western Sangtam Students’ Union president Samuel Sangtam and general secretary T Rosela Sangtam reminded that USSC has earlier submitted memorandum to school education department, but did not receive response, which led to agitation.

WSSU stated that had the department met the demands of USSC, the situation would not have escalated.
The union has, therefore, urged the department to take the necessary action to prevent the issue from getting out of hand and causing inconvenience to the students.
