Western Sümi Students’ Union (WSSU) has extended full support to the RMSA teachers of the NRMSATA 2016 batch and condemned the State government for allegedly defying court orders concerning their pending dues.
In a statement issued by WSSU president Ikato Khulu and general secretary Vitoka N. Rochill, the union recalled that the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, had ruled in favour of the teachers on March 16, 2022, regarding the issue of scale pay.
The verdict was later reaffirmed by the Supreme Court of India on May 20, 2025, directing the release of all pending salaries and arrears.
However, WSSU expressed dismay that even after five months, the State Government had failed to implement the court’s ruling, terming the delay as “disgraceful and unacceptable.” The union stated that denying justice to teachers amounted not only to contempt of court but also to an attack on the future of society, as teachers are considered the backbone of education.
WSSU therefore demanded that the State Government immediately implement the court’s directive and clear all pending dues without further delay. It also endorsed the ultimatum served by the RMSA teachers on August 13, 2025, and reiterated its unwavering support for their rightful demands. The union affirmed that it stands firmly with the teaching community in their fight for justice and recognition.
