
Month-long seminar on “Child rights and child adoption” organised by Western Sümi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) culminated on June 1 at Hovishe Village under Niuland sub-division.
A press release by WSTH media cell stated that the objective of the seminar held under the hoho president, Jolly Awomi, was sensitize the people about various child rights and the rightful ways to adopt a child.
Speaker on the last day of the seminar, WSTH general secretary, Holi Chophy, spoke on the theme of the seminar, “Child Rights and Child Adoption” and briefed the gathering on the existence of various rights and Child Protection Acts to safeguard and protect the interest and rights of a child.
“Most adult compromise the rights of children and do not take their views into account but by doing so we are cutting of their voice and rights,” said Chophy.
Speaking on child abuse, Chophy said that abusing was not only confined to physical abuse but it also includes mental, emotional and sexual abuse as well.
She also ask the parents to be particularly aware of their children’s whereabouts as there has been an increasing crime of abducting children and selling them out for prostitution or become victims of organ traffickers.
At the seminar, WSTH information and publicity, Vilito Achumi, spoke on the aims of the hoho and thanked the pioneers and leaders who took the initiative to stage a platform for the Sümi women.
