Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) and Shena Old Tüghalomi Küqhakulu (SOTK) have expressed deep anguish over the “attempted murder” of Yetovi Zhimomi by Naveen Kumar Singh and Papu Dharam Singh along with their accomplices numbering more than 30 people at Zukihe village in Niuland district on the evening of March 9.
In a statement, WSYF president Atokiho Sumi and general secretary Botoho Achumi declared that they would in no way tolerate such atrocities inflicted on the people by those that were sheltered on Naga soil and strongly condemned the barbaric act and violence in an era where people were zealously striving for peace and progress.
They also appealed to the law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter and take stringent action as per the provisions of law.
They alleged that this was not the first time that such a heinous act had been committed on Naga people in Khaghaboto area by non-locals, which the law enforcement agencies would bear testimony.
Mentioning that repeated offences of similar nature had made the area a hotspot of criminal activities, the duo that declared that these would not be tolerated henceforth. They maintained that the onus of maintaining peace and providing safety was on the state government, which it alleged had failed yet again.
They appealed to the state government to establish a police station in Khaghaboto area for establishing peace and tranquillity, and for safeguarding the rights of the citizens. They pointed out that the area shared boundaries with the areas of non-locals, acted as a trade transit point, and remained unchecked, thereby necessitating the police station.
The WSYF leaders urged the law enforcement agencies to apprehend all the perpetrators of the incident and award befitting punishment, failing which they warned that the youth body would be compelled to take matters into its hands.
They also reaffirmed their full support to the agents of law in carrying out their operations for speedy and just actions.
They further appealed to respective chambers of commerce and industry, and various business associations of Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts to keep track of Illegal immigrants and unregistered non-locals residing for business and other purposes.
Meanwhile, announcing that the WSYF would be undertaking an intensive bio-data collection drive of outsiders residing in Western Sumi inhabited areas with immediate effect, they directed all the units of the front to be prepared for any call hereon.
They also asked the WSYF units to be vigilant and cautious against such acts that had time and again proved to be detrimental to the progress of the Naga Society.
