WTK holds meeting on ‘TekumkumTetsur’

Watsu Telen Kohima (WTK) held its general meeting at Molu Ki, Kohima, under the theme “TekumkumTetsur” on June 28.
Delivering keynote address, principal of State College of Teacher Education Kohima, Dr. Elizabeth Walling, defined “TekumkumTetsur” as a woman who is able to take initiative, complete her work efficiently and independently, and rise to challenges with confidence.
She described the qualities of such women as being confident, skilled, hardworking, open-minded and capable of taking criticism. She urged women to use their time wisely, be bold decision-makers, and uphold strong values while avoiding low self-esteem, which may lead to personal struggles such as depression and failure.
Walling also emphasized the importance of building a community identity through collective efforts by preserving traditional skills and practices.
President of Kohima Aor Telongjem, T. Chubayanger, expressed happiness at the establishment of the WTK office at Molu Ki, calling it a sign of unity. He encouraged the unit to stay focused and patient while striving towards their goals.
Speaking on the topic “Ku Maitsu” (My Identity), Advisory Board member Atula Wai encouraged women to embrace their uniqueness and work on self-development. She reflected on the values passed down by elders and raised concerns over overreliance on technology, urging parents to actively guide children to preserve cultural identity. She also mentioned the historical identity associated with the tattooing tradition of Ao women.
Outgoing president of WTK, S. Nukshirenla, shared a brief history of the organisation and its initiatives for social upliftment and women empowerment.
Meanwhile, WTK announced the names of the new office bearers for the 2025–2028 tenure, with Bendangsangla as president, Alemla Mary as vice president, Dr. Akangnungla as general secretary, C. Narola Jamir as asst. general secretary, Tenlamongla as finance secretary and Chubasenla as asst. finance secretary.
